TATHRA NATURAL HOME
Tathra
2022
This natural home in Tathra was designed around passive solar principles, capturing northern sunlight to create a comfortable and energy-efficient living environment year-round. Burnished concrete floors with slab edge insulation provides thermal mass, absorbing and retaining heat from the winter sun, while high-performance thermally broken Logikhaus double glazed windows improve insulation and overall thermal performance.
Natural and durable materials were carefully selected throughout, including Natural Brick masonry made from reclaimed materials, wood fibre insulation, sustainable engineered timber flooring, and Colorbond steel cladding. Together, these materials create a breathable, highly insulated home with strong thermal mass and inherent fire resistance. External electric steel mesh blinds provide additional ember protection and thermal control, helping the home respond to both climate and bushfire conditions.
The build also included a guest cottage and separate art and exercise studio, supported by independent water catchment, a large in-ground concrete water tank, solar and battery storage, and a worm farm septic system.
